MT4/MT5: EA disconnected (fix checklist)

Created by Levi Dane, Modified on Tue, 30 Dec, 2025 at 5:04 AM by Levi Dane

Quick answer (most common fix)

  1. In MetaTrader, make sure Algo Trading / AutoTrading is ON (green).

  2. Make sure the EA is attached to a chart and shows a smiley / running state.

  3. In MetaTrader: Tools → Options → Expert Advisors → Allow WebRequest and add: - http://127.0.0.1

  4. Keep MetaTrader running while you want copying.

  5. In the app, open Accounts and confirm the MT account shows as connected.

Symptoms

  • The app shows your MT4/MT5 account as disconnected
  • You see a warning like EA disconnected and trades do not copy
  • The Trade Copier banner says copying might not be working (for MT links)

Most common causes

  • AutoTrading / Algo Trading is OFF
  • EA is not attached to a chart (or removed on chart change)
  • WebRequest is not enabled for localhost (http://127.0.0.1)
  • MetaTrader is closed, frozen, or logged out
  • Windows firewall/antivirus blocks local connections (less common)

Fix steps (do this in order)

1) Enable AutoTrading / Algo Trading

In MT4/MT5:

  1. Click the AutoTrading / Algo Trading button so it is ON (green).
  2. If it immediately turns off again, check you are not in a restricted mode (some brokers/VMs).

2) Attach the EA to a chart

  1. Open any chart.
  2. Drag the EA onto the chart.
  3. In the EA settings, ensure: - “Allow Algo Trading” is enabled - “Allow DLL imports” only if required by your EA (many do not need it)

3) Allow WebRequest to localhost (required)

In MT4/MT5:

  1. Go to Tools → Options → Expert Advisors
  2. Tick Allow WebRequest for listed URL
  3. Add: - http://127.0.0.1
  4. Click OK

4) Restart MetaTrader (quick reset)

If it still shows disconnected:

  1. Close MT4/MT5 completely
  2. Re-open
  3. Re-attach the EA to the chart

5) Check Windows firewall/antivirus (if nothing else works)

  • Temporarily allow MetaTrader through firewall.
  • If you run strict antivirus, whitelist the app and MetaTrader (local traffic only).

Verify it worked

  1. In the app, open Accounts and confirm the MT account shows connected.
  2. Place a tiny test trade on the master.
  3. Open Logs and confirm you see a green copied event.

If it still doesn’t work (Escalate)

  1. Open Copy Not Working?
  2. Run quick scan
  3. Open a support ticket and include: - Whether this is MT4 or MT5 - Broker name + account type (demo/live) - The time it failed (timezone) - A screenshot of the MT chart showing the EA is attached
